Hello all. I was wondering something... My internal sound card (realtek) can support 24bit, 44.1 audio, but when I open studio one, it shows only 16 bit. I can get the latency down to 10ms with no crackles or distortion, but like I said S1 won't recognize the 24 bit capability. For example , I go into the Asus sound manager for the Realtek and click on the default format tab. From there, it gives you options for bit depth and such. I click on 24bit, 44.1hz studio quality and then close it out. Then, when I open S1 and go to the audio options, it states that 16 bit is default. Anyone else know why this is? I am waiting to get funds to buy a good audio card, but was looking to use the internal sound card until then. Thanks.

I'm just wondering why you are bothering using Studio One with a realtek soundcard. You'll have to look into your soundcards settings to get 24 bit.

I'm bothering with it because it's all I have right now! Anyway, in the device manager, the card can be set to 24bit, 44.1hz audio quality. when I start S1, it defaults as 16 bit. can anyone tell me as to why? I know.. Realtek sucks, but it sounds good to me for now (no crackles or distortion even @ 10ms).

What I'm struggling to understand is that you bought Studio One Artist for $200 or worse Studio One Pro for $400 and you're using your onboard sound card? You could have bought a decent interface and got Studio One Artist for free. It just seems fishy. I don't like helping people who download cracks.
There should be an icon on the bottom right hand corner to access your soundcards settings. Probably an orange or yellow speaker or possibly a crab. No seriously Realteks icon is a crab.

Hmmm... well I got Artist for 22.11, then upgraded to pro. Saved a ton of money. No fishiness about it, besides, the moderators are pretty good at discovering cracks, so ya. Anyway, can I get someone who has a realtek ALC892 sound card??? It supports up to 192khz, 24 bit sound AGAIN why isn't S1 picking this up? Anyone?

With all due respect you're making a lot of assumptions here. First, a lot of folks, especialy those either with laptops or just starting out in recording, use whatever onboard soundcard they have. Is it ideal? No. But it's the reality.
Secondly, you must have missed the Presonus special a couple of weeks ago that had S1 Artist on sale for $20. A lot of new users jumped aboard with that.
I've been at the DAW game for around a decade, started with Sonar 2.2 (for which I paid, if I recall correctly, around $300) -- yet I only had an onboard soundblaster.
The crack comment was out of line, as you have no proof whatsoever that it's true. Bottom line, if you don't want to help the guy, then don't post anything.

2c,
The two things I can suggest are to either
--See if there are newer drivers available for the Realtek card, or --
--Try this 'universal' driver for onboard sound cards. A lot of folks have had some success with it:
http://www.asio4all.com/
Good luck.

Man, thanks Dijon. I'm just looking for help that's all. I do have asio4all (the latest one) on my computer, but when I use it, it makes too much noise. A high pitch squeel to be exact. I wish that would work cause I can get extremely low latency with it.

2c, what O.S. are you using? If Win XP or Vista, maybe if you try an older version of asio4all...?

I did help. I have a Realtek chip which I disabled. The settings are through the icon in the bottom right hand corner whether it be a crab or a speaker icon. That's where the settings are. I've been using DAWs since Cubase was midi only on the Atari ST. I'm suspicious because there are a lot of people out there who download cracks and expect help. I didn't withhold any information. I gave the answer specific to the AC97 device in question. If you can find the exact chip and drivers from Realtek, they have a built in noise reduction which you have to turn on.
Here. I did the work for you:
http://218.210.127.131/downloads/
Hopefully you have one of their high definition chips. These are the ones with noise reduction. The unfortunate thing is that the noise is inherent with cheap sound devices.

Hue, that's really good info, and will likely come in handy for others with a Realtek card.
As far as your 'suspicions', well, does the OP still sound to you like someone who downloads cracks? That's why I said that comment was unwarranted (helpful tip or not).
Let's let the mods take care of any suspicions, since they're in a better position to know who's got legit software. All we can do is continue to offer help, hopefully in a positive manner.

my machine has a realtek card as well (forget the chipset model)...asio4all works well enough. sometimes it's nice to not drag the interface around...especially for writing.
there's also a new ms kernel audio thingie (sorry, on the linux partition atm). that works pretty well with sibelius or notion...i haven't tried it in studio1, so i don't know about it there...

Thank you all for the replies. I am using windows 7 64 bit, and toggle back and forth between S1 64bit and S1 32 bit (depending if I use the Kore player or toontrack). I do have the Realtek hd version running and the noise suppression doesn't really do much. In fact, I don't need to use it because I can't detect noise, so long as the levels are held at about 20db boost. I just don't understand why S1 doesn't recognize the bit depth @ 24, as the card supports up to 24bit 190khz sample rates! I'm gonna have to look into screen capture so I can show you all what I mean. Thanks for any and all help!

Please, please help Presonus!

Sorry, not going to happen. The Firebox has been discontinued for a looonnng time. It is no longer supported by Presonus. However, as has already been mentioned the Firebox driver can be installed on Win10 in compatibility mode. I've had a Firebox, Inspire & Firepod all working on Win10....but that OS is not officially supported for any of those devices. It may be that your firewire chipset is not compatible.....here is a list of compatible firewire devices:
http://www.presonus.com/uploads/products/media/files/PreSonus_FireWire_Chipset_Compatibility_7-25-12.pdf
All that being said......we can help you better now and in the future with a bit more info......if you will post your system specs in your signature, (see my sig), we will be better able to troubleshoot your problems. Without knowing what type of pc you're running, what OS you're using, what DAW etc....we often can't recommend a 'simple fix'
